Stefanchuk: The Verkhovna Rada does not have 226 votes to ban Moscow churches in Ukraine
According to him, "there is still an internal discussion that takes place not only within the Servant of the People, but also within other parties."

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk believes that the parliament will not have the necessary 226 votes to pass a bill to ban churches in Ukraine controlled by the Russian Federation (No. 8371).
Source. He said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
"Parliament is a mechanism that makes decisions collectively. And it seems to me that there are not yet 226 votes to [adopt] such an important legislative act. To bring it to the floor and fail it just to please the Russian Federation is simply ridiculous, both legally and politically irresponsible," Stefanchuk said.
He added that he wants to believe that he will see 226 votes, but, according to him, "there is still an internal discussion that is taking place not only within the Servant of the People, but also within other parties that position themselves as very patriotic."
As reported, on February 17, the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt as a basis the government's draft law (No. 8371) on the prohibition of the activities of religious organizations whose governing center is located in the aggressor state.
In April, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) called on the parliament to adopt Bill 8371. At the time, Stefanchuk said that the Rada would consider the AUCCRO's proposals and make an informed decision on them.
