Zelensky presents awards to Polish volunteers for helping Ukrainians

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a stopover in Poland on his way back to Kyiv after visits to the United States and Canada.

In recent days, relations between the two countries have been overshadowed by a conflict over the supply of Ukrainian food, but Kyiv and Warsaw have agreed to seek a compromise on the issue.

Zelenskyy arrived in the city of Lublin, where he honored two volunteers from Poland for helping Ukrainian refugees.

The Ukrainian state awards went to journalist Bianca Zalewska and volunteer Damian Duda, who organized a medical team to help wounded Ukrainian soldiers.

"Thank you to the whole of Poland for the invaluable support and solidarity that helps protect the freedom of our entire Europe!" Zelenskyy said in a tweet.

"I am proud that Ukraine has such a strong neighborhood. I want to thank you. I want to thank all the Polish people, all the people who have opened their families, their homes, opened themselves and helped from the very first days. I believe that any challenges on our common path are nothing compared to the fact that there is such strength between our people," the Head of State emphasized.

This week, in an interview with Polsat News, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland "no longer supplies weapons to Ukraine, but equips itself with the most modern weapons."

Afterwards, Polish President Andrzej Duda clarified that Warsaw does not intend to supply Ukraine with modern weapons purchased for the needs of the Polish army.

As a reminder, Poland's decision to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain to protect its farmers from cheaper products angered Kyiv.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the Polish ban "political theater" that benefits Russia.

In response, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on the Ukrainian president to never offend Poles again, referring to Zelensky's harsh statements at the UN.

Background. As reported, the United States is demanding that Poland explain its statements about suspending military support for Ukraine.
