Carlsberg has terminated agreements with Russia's Baltika on the production and sale of beer under the group's brands

The Danish company Carlsberg Group has revoked licenses for the production of products under its brands from the Russian Baltika, this applies to "international and regional brands".

The company explained that its actions are a response to the decision to transfer Baltika to the temporary management of Rosimuschestvo. This order was signed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on July 16, 2023.

"We see no way to negotiate," commented the Carlsberg Group. – "We refuse the deal on unacceptable terms due to the illegal takeover of our business in the country. We continue to take measures to protect our employees, assets and operations."

"Baltika operates eight breweries in Russia, where it produces more than 50 brands, including Tuborg, Kronenbourg, Don, Arsenalne, Zatecky Gus and others.

A month before Baltika was transferred to Rosimuschestvo, Carlsberg Group signed an agreement to sell the breweries to an unknown buyer.

In September 2023, Baltika filed a lawsuit with the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg to ban Carlsberg from revoking the license agreements, Kommersant found out.

Background. As reported, Putin has taken away from Danone and Carlsberg multibillion-dollar assets invested in their Russian subsidiaries. For both of these multinational giants, Russia was their largest market until 2014.
