Simonyan proposes to detonate a nuclear bomb over Siberia, Russian officials demand an apology

Maria Prusakova, a State Duma deputy from the Altai Territory, recorded a video message to propagandist Margarita Simonyan demanding an apology for her proposal to detonate a nuclear bomb over Siberia.

"Margarita, the statement that in order to prevent your children from being embarrassed by their peers at school because they don't have gadgets, you are basically considering the possibility of detonating a thermonuclear bomb over Siberia was taken by us, Siberians, as a deep insult," Prusakova said.

She reminded Simonyan that the residents of the region made a serious contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"Therefore, at the very least, you should apologize to the people of all of Siberia," Prusakova emphasized, adding that even today there are people who suffer from the consequences of the explosions at the Semipalatinsk test site, where more than 460 nuclear tests were conducted between 1949 and 1989.

The mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokot, a physicist by training, also commented on Simonyan's statement. According to him, such an explosion would have serious consequences that people would feel for a millennium.

"Because unstable elements are formed, the half-life of which is hundreds of years, and some even thousands of years," Lokot emphasized. He called for a very responsible approach to the problem of ground-based thermonuclear tests.

The day before, Simonyan proposed detonating a nuclear bomb several hundred kilometers above Siberia. According to the propagandist, an engineer told her that this would not affect the Earth and its inhabitants, but would lead to a complete shutdown of all electronics and satellites, which would be revenge on the West.

"We will return to some 1993. I'll even be happy about it. At least I won't have to explain to my children why everyone has gadgets and they don't," Simonyan said, noting that she forbids them to use electronic devices.

The propagandist also called a nuclear explosion over Siberia a "herbivorous option."

"This is the most humane thing yet," she said.

State Duma deputy from the Omsk region Andrei Alyokhin, speaking to RTVI, reacted to Simonyan's statement with a phrase: "It seems that for this audience there is no Russia beyond the Moscow Ring Road!"

In his turn, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said that the RT editor-in-chief's proposal was not without merit.

The Kremlin said that Russia is not going to conduct nuclear tests and called discussions about this "impossible."
