Armenia begins preparations to ban Russian propaganda

Armenia's Commission on Television and Radio has found violations in the broadcasting of Russian TV channels, including RTR-Planeta and Channel One World Network, the head of the agency, Tigran Hakobyan, told Sputnik.

According to him, the country periodically raises the issue of the content of talk shows on some Russian channels.

Earlier, MP Lusini Badalyan from the ruling Civic Contract faction proposed to cut off the broadcasting of Russian TV channels because of "anti-Armenian content", which, in her opinion, poses a threat to the country's national security.

"I think some steps will be taken, because when something threatens the security of the state, these steps must be taken, regardless of whether they will be beneficial or not," Badalian said.

Hakobyan reminded that Russian broadcasters are the only foreign representatives in the country's public multiplex.

Moreover, Armenia remains the only post-Soviet country with Russian TV channels in its public multiplex.

"It was a political decision to allow our allies to broadcast in our space, given Russia's interest and the fact that we have a lot of Russian-speaking listeners. But I think it is wrong to use this and present such content with violations. We have a completely free country, there are just some boundaries that cannot be violated," Tigran Hakobyan said.

Background. As a reminder, Armenia has ratified the Rome Statute, which provides for Putin's arrest if he arrives.
