Bulgarian law enforcement agencies have detained 12 people on charges of exporting dual-use goods and technologies to Russia in violation of sanctions imposed in connection with the invasion of Ukraine.
Source. This was reported by the Bulgarian State Agency for National Security (GANB) and the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office, The Insider reports.
Five of the detainees are foreigners: three Russian citizens, one Albanian, and one citizen of Belarus. They were detained at Sofia airport while trying to fly to Moscow.
The group had been operating since 2022. One of the organizers registered a company in Plovdiv. The firm purchased dual-use goods (optical sights, ballistic computers, aviation radios, etc.) worth about $2.17 million. The goods were stored in a residential building, repackaged and prepared for export to Russia. The detainees did not have an export license.
The GANB claims that the group also operated in the UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Singapore, the UAE and other countries.
