Hamas thanks Putin for statements supporting Palestine

The Islamist Hamas movement has expressed gratitude to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for the position he took after the militants' attack on Israel. In particular, the group thanked him for his "tireless efforts" aimed at ending the "Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people" and calls for the creation of an "independent Palestinian state".

Hamas also pointed out that Putin opposed "the blockade of Gaza, the cessation of humanitarian aid and attacks on the civilian population."

On October 13, Putin said at a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council that the conflict in the Middle East should be resolved through peace talks, which should result in the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also compared the blockade of Gaza to the siege of Leningrad during World War II and called this approach unacceptable.

At the same time, Putin acknowledged that Israel is facing "an unprecedented attack that has never been seen in history – not only in terms of scale but also in terms of execution," but added that the IDF "is responding on a large scale and also with quite brutal methods."

"We understand the logic of the events. But despite the intensification on both sides, I still believe that, of course, we must think about the civilian population," the Kremlin dictator said.

Before that, he said that the escalation in the Middle East was the result of the "failure" of US policy, which tried to monopolize the conflict settlement and did not seek compromises acceptable to both sides.
