The United States will deploy its THAAD and Patriot missile defense systems in the Middle East
These steps are a response to "recent escalation by Iran"

The US government intends to strengthen its military positions in the Middle East. To this end, the THAAD missile defense system and additional battalions of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system will be deployed in the region.
Source. This is stated in the press release of the US Department of Defense.
Earlier, Washington deployed the aircraft carriers Dwight Eisenhower and Gerald Ford to the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The Pentagon stated that the main purpose of these actions was to "deter hostile actions against Israel."
Now, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered the deployment of a THAAD missile defense system battery and additional Patriot missile defense systems in the Middle East. Their deployment is intended to strengthen the protection of U.S. forces in the region.
In addition, additional military units were put on alert.
All these steps were a response to "the recent escalation by Iran and its proxies in the Middle East," the statement said.
Iran has threatened that the expected Israeli ground operation in Gaza will not go unanswered. What this response will be is unknown. However, Israel's war against Hamas could turn into a regional war if Iran is involved in it directly or indirectly, for example, by supporting the decision of Lebanese Hezbollah to join the fighting.
Background. As a reminder, Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said that Israel would end its ground operation in the Gaza Strip if Hamas releases hostages and surrenders.
