Rishi Sunak admits Palestinian rocket, not Israeli one, caused explosion at Gaza hospital

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told MPs that, based on intelligence, "the British government believes that the explosion at Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip was probably caused by a rocket or part of a rocket fired from Gaza towards Israel."

Initially, Sunak, like many other world leaders, believed that the rocket was fired at the hospital by Israeli forces, as immediately after the tragedy last week, the Gaza Strip authorities (Hamas) immediately blamed Israel for the explosion, saying that the hospital exploded as a result of a deliberate air strike.
Later, Israel released evidence indicating that another Palestinian group, Islamic Jihad, was involved in the explosion: a rocket fired by militants from Gaza misfired. "Islamic Jihad categorically denies this version.
According to the prime minister, the spread of incorrect information about the cause of the explosion "has had a negative impact in the region, including significantly undermining important US diplomatic efforts," and has also contributed to the escalation of tensions between supporters of Israel and defenders of Palestinians in Britain itself.
"We must learn from this situation and do our best not to make hasty judgments in the future," the prime minister said in a speech in the House of Commons.
Background. Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden said that it was not Israel, but "the other side of the conflict" that was involved in the airstrike on the hospital in Gaza.
