Head of NACP: President's signing of new law may lead to removal of more than 35 thousand people from the register of corrupt officials

The signing by the President of Ukraine of the law "On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses and Other Laws of Ukraine on Improving the Procedure for Bringing to Responsibility Persons Authorized to Perform State or Local Government Functions" may result in the removal of approximately 35,000 people from the Unified State Register of Persons Who Have Committed Corruption Offenses.

Source. This was stated by the head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, Oleksandr Novikov, in an interview with Radio Liberty.

"Today, the president has signed a bill that actually removes more than 10,000 people convicted of criminal corruption offenses from the relevant register of persons who have committed corruption or corruption-related offenses. After that, these individuals will be able to participate, for example, in public procurement. This is a huge risk, and we hope that the President will not sign this law," Novikov said.

He clarified that the register of corrupt officials currently includes approximately 45,000 people who have committed corruption or corruption-related offenses, including 12,000 people convicted of corruption offenses, 25,000 people prosecuted for administrative offenses, and 2,000 people for disciplinary offenses related to corruption.

"If the law on the right to forget corrupt officials comes into force, about 10,000 people will remain there. And 35,000 people, including 10,000 people who have committed corruption-related criminal offenses, will be forgotten," Novikov emphasized.

Background. As a reminder, the NACP found UAH 1.7 million of unjustified assets in a Kyiv City Council deputy.
