Zelensky comments on drone attack on Khmelnytsky NPP

In his evening address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the drone attack on the Khmelnytsky region, the wreckage of which fell near the nuclear power plant.

He called it "another reminder" of how important it is to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.

"Most likely, the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant was the target of these 'shaheds': the wave from the explosion smashed windows, including those on the territory of the nuclear power plant," the Ukrainian president said.

The Russian side has not commented on the nighttime drone strike, including in Khmelnytsky region.

"This strike on the nuclear power plant is another reminder to all our partners how important it is to strengthen Ukrainian air defense and how dangerous it is when Russia can circumvent global sanctions," Interfax-Ukraine quoted Zelensky as saying.

Background. According to Ukrainian authorities, all 11 drones that attacked Ukrainian territory on Wednesday night were shot down, but the debris fell on a critical infrastructure facility and caused an explosion.

"At night, the enemy attacked the area near the Khmelnytsky NPP. There are damages in the houses near the plant. 1,860 consumers in the towns of Slavuta and Netishyn were cut off from electricity," the government said in a statement.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that the explosion damaged windows in the administrative and laboratory buildings of the nuclear power plant. In both cities, the blast wave damaged the premises of fire and rescue units and the building of the police department.
