New camp for Russian prisoners of war to be opened in Ukraine
The existing one can no longer accommodate all Russians who surrender

A new camp for Russian prisoners of war will soon be opened in Ukraine.
Source. This is reported by the Ukrainian state project of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War "I Want to Live".
The project explains the increase in the number of Russian prisoners of war by the situation at the front, the decline in the motivation of Russian soldiers and the refusal of the Russian side to exchange prisoners.
The project was launched on September 19 last year, two days after partial mobilization was announced in Russia, and deals with Russian military personnel who surrender in units or individually.
The project ensures that the conditions in the new camp, which is located deep behind the lines in accordance with the Geneva Convention, will meet all international standards, just like the existing Zapad-1 camp, which opened in May 2022.
"The Russian prisoners will be provided with medical care, three meals a day, contact with relatives, and constant access to representatives of the International Red Cross," the project's statement also reads.
The Ukrainian authorities do not disclose information about the number of camps for Russian prisoners of war in the country and the number of people held there.
Background. Earlier, ISW wrote that the Russians may force Ukrainian prisoners of war to join their "volunteer formations".
