David Cameron returns to the British government as Foreign Secretary
Cameron served as prime minister in 2010-2016, and after his resignation tried to create a $1 billion British-Chinese investment fund

After the dismissal of British Home Secretary Suella Braverman, James Cleverly, who previously headed the Foreign Office, was appointed to replace her. And Prime Minister Rishi Sunak unexpectedly appointed David Cameron, the former prime minister who resigned in 2016 after the Brexit vote, as the new foreign minister.

Braverman was fired for her column in The Times, in which she accused the police of being too lenient with anti-Israel protesters. The minister pointed to a "double standard" of law enforcement, noting that some actions are ignored, while others face a "harsh response." In an interview with Sky News, Braverman called actions in support of Palestinians hate marches.
The position of the Interior Minister caused a flurry of criticism and demands for Prime Minister Sunak to dismiss her. The content of the article was not coordinated with the prime minister's office, and later it turned out that Braverman did not comply with the request of the leadership to soften the tone of the column, the BBC notes.
Cameron's return is an attempt by Sunak to strengthen his team before the next election, the Financial Times writes.
Cameron served as prime minister in 2010-2016, and after his resignation, he tried to create a $1 billion British-Chinese investment fund, which was eventually mothballed due to the deterioration of relations between London and Beijing. Cameron has also recently been at the center of a scandal following an FT article claiming that he secretly lobbied former colleagues in the government on behalf of fintech startup Greensill Capital.
