The Nepalese authorities have asked Russia not to recruit Nepalese citizens into the Russian army and to immediately send home the Nepalese military who have already been recruited.

This happened after it became known that at least six Nepalese citizens who served in the Russian army were killed.

Nepalese soldiers – the Gurkhas – are famous for their bravery and fighting skills; they serve in the British and Indian armies under an agreement between the three countries, Reuters notes.

However, Nepal has no such agreements with Russia.

The Nepalese authorities reported that six citizens serving in the Russian army had already been killed. They did not provide any other details.

"The Nepalese government has appealed to the Russian embassy to immediately return their bodies and pay compensation to their families," Reuters quoted the Nepalese Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement on Monday evening.

The press release also said that efforts are underway to free a Nepalese citizen who fought and was taken prisoner by Ukraine.

The authorities also urged citizens not to join the army of any country at war.

The daily English-language newspaper Kathmandu Post, citing the Nepalese ambassador to Moscow, reported that about 150-200 Nepalese are mercenaries in the Russian army.

Background. As reported, the Russian military is being forced to capture the city by Putin's "direct line" – that is, by December 14.
