Finland reopens newly opened border crossing points with Russia

The Finnish government will reopen the Vaalimaa and Niiralu border crossings with Russia, which reopened on the morning of December 14.

Source. This was stated by the Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen, the Finnish edition of Helsingin Sanomat writes.

It is noted that this decision was made due to the resumption of the flow of asylum seekers.

Border crossings in Karelia and the Leningrad region were opened on the morning of December 14. By the middle of the day, 24 asylum seekers had arrived at the Niirala checkpoint. According to Yle, at least 62 asylum seekers arrived at both border crossing points during the day. Most of them were citizens of Somalia and Syria.

Finnish Finance Minister Riikka Purra said that refugees are "being pushed to apply for asylum," but did not specify who is behind it.

The Finnish Cabinet of Ministers decided to open the Vaalimaa and Niirala border crossings on December 12.

Earlier it was reported that foreigners with expired Russian visas are being detained en masse on the border between Russia and Finland due to the migration crisis. The Russian authorities are trying to recruit the detainees to send them to war with Ukraine.

Europe believes that Russia is deliberately creating a refugee crisis on the borders of the Schengen area. In particular, the Finnish Border Guard Service reported that Russian border guards deliberately bring migrants to the Finnish border to provoke a crisis.
