SBU puts Russian oligarch Friedman on the wanted list

The Security Service of Ukraine has put Russian businessman Mikhail Fridman on the wanted list, Ukrainian media report.

The wanted list describes Friedman as "a person hiding from pre-trial investigation authorities." It also indicates the "day of Friedman's disappearance" as October 10.

On October 9, it became known that Friedman was in Russia (he spent most of his time since the beginning of the full-scale war in the UK, where he continues to challenge the sanctions imposed on him).

But sources close to him said at the time that he planned to settle in Israel when the war with Hamas ended.

Cases of extradition from Ukraine to Israel are known. In the opposite direction – from Israel to Ukraine – Israeli law does not allow the extradition of citizens of the country, except for charges of crimes committed before acquiring citizenship.

Friedman is a citizen of both Russia and Israel, as mentioned in the decision of the London High Court of October 26, 2023.

Friedman controlled a bank in Ukraine, which until March 2022 was called Alfa-Bank (in Russia, a group controlled by the businessman and his partners owns a bank with the same name). After the start of the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian Alfa-Bank was renamed Sense Bank, but the Ukrainian government decided to nationalize it this year.
