President's Office: in 2023, Western companies supplied critical components worth $2.9 billion to Russia in circumvention of sanctions
Experts called on the West to strengthen export controls to cut off supply channels to Russia

In the first ten months of 2023, Western companies supplied critical components to Russia for a total of $2.9 billion – products from more than 250 Western companies were found in samples of destroyed or trophy Russian weapons.
Source. This is stated in a new report by the Ermak-McFall Group, which is developing recommendations for sanctions against Russia, the BBC reports.
The report also says that imports of computer numerical control machines to Russia in January-October 2023 increased by 33% compared to the pre-sanctions period and amounted to $292 million.
Experts called for measures to ensure that export controls precede Russian attempts to circumvent them.
Such measures, in particular, should be aimed at eliminating gaps in export control policy and counteracting attempts to circumvent it by third countries, the report said.
Background. As reported, at least two major Chinese banks will limit their work with Russia after the threat of US sanctions.
