Shmyhal to meet in Uzhhorod with Slovak PM Fico, who opposes providing Ukraine with weapons
Fico said that the "conflict" in Ukraine has no military solution

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has confirmed that he will meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Wednesday, January 24. This will be the first such meeting after Fico, who won the parliamentary elections last year, promised to stop sending weapons to Kyiv.
In an interview with Slovak radio, Fico said that the meeting would be held on the territory of Ukraine, in Uzhhorod, which is located near the border with Slovakia, the BBC reports.
According to Fico, he has already told Shmyhal by phone that Bratislava will no longer send military supplies to Ukraine from the Slovak army's stockpile, but commercial arms supplies will not be stopped.
He also said that he supports Ukraine's aspirations to join the EU, but that this could happen simultaneously with the accession of Moldova and the Western Balkan countries.
Fico said that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution and both sides should start negotiations to end the war, even if it means unpleasant compromises.
According to Fico, it is unreasonable to expect Russia to withdraw its troops from Donbas and Crimea, "and everyone understands this."
The Slovakian prime minister has repeatedly opposed Ukraine's accession to NATO, saying that it would lay the groundwork for a third world war.
He has also repeated his assertions that Ukraine is a corrupt state that has lost its sovereignty and is under full U.S. control.
Fico's opponents say that he is constantly relaying Kremlin narratives about the war in Ukraine.
Background. As reported, Orban has found an ally in the EU against the allocation of financial aid to Ukraine.
