Ukrainian eco-startup Carbominer gets €1.5M grant from EIC Accelerator

Ukrainian eco-startup Carbominer secured a €1.5 Million grant and is eligible for up to €7.5 Million in equity at the later stages of the project as part of the agreement with the EIC Accelerator Fund.

Mind became aware of this from the company's press release.

The grant application process reportedly took 8 months. The company says the startup is going to use the funds raised to develop the DAC technology, which includes improving the technology to plants with a capacity of 50 and 250 tonnes per year, pre-commercial work with European vertical farms and smart greenhouses, as well as creating a production line of DAC units over the next 4 years.

The technology developed by Carbominer allows to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (Direct Air Capture) and is shaped in two modular units – for CO2 capture and regeneration.

The first focus area where the team aims to make an impact is Indoor Agriculture. The global vision driving the team is to enable more sustainable  food production by supplying green atmospheric CO2 to indoor farmers.

The startup launched a small research laboratory in March 2020 and scaled up to a full-fledged R&D facility in October of the same year after attracting a seed investment from the Ukrainian fund SMRK VC. In September 2021 the first MVP machine was built.

In 2022, Carbominer launched an improved a 1-tonne DAC machine prototype on the paid pilot with a corporate partner.
