Confiscated cars are to be transferred to the Ukrainian military

Starting from 15 February, cars registered in Russia will be allowed to participate in road traffic in Latvia only if they cross the country in transit.
At the same time, it will be possible to transport a car in this way only once.

Owners of cars with Russian licence plates had until 14 February to either register their vehicles in Latvia or take them out of the country.
The restrictions will not apply to diplomats and people with other types of immunity.
The confiscated cars are proposed to be transferred to the Ukrainian military. In addition, the driver will face a fine of 750 to 2000 euros.
Background. Earlier it was reported that over the past year, Latvia handed over almost three hundred cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. The Latvian tax service is currently preparing documents for the transfer of 34 more cars to Ukraine.
