German opposition leader reiterates call to supply Ukraine with long-range TAURUS missiles
Friedrich Merz calls for "very concrete conclusions" to be drawn from the security agreement between Germany and Ukraine and for cruise missiles to be delivered to Kyiv

Against the backdrop of the security agreement concluded between Germany and Ukraine, the head of the German opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, has once again called for Kyiv to receive long-range TAURUS cruise missiles. Now "very concrete conclusions" should be drawn from the agreement, Merz said in an interview with Welt TV, Deutsche Welle reports.
"If such an agreement is reached, then the Cyrillic TAURUS missiles must be provided. Because no paper will help Ukraine and its people, only concrete help will help them," Merz said.
In addition, the head of Germany's largest opposition party criticised what he believes to be insufficient supplies of German ammunition to Ukraine.
"Everything is too slow, too indecisive. Those who can do it technically, who can do it commercially, complain to us and many others that there are still no decisions, that it all takes too long."
The bilateral agreement on security guarantees was signed on 16 February in Berlin by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The agreement puts the military assistance provided by Germany to Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression on a contractual basis and provides for its provision in the event of a repeated Russian attack on Ukraine.
The agreement is designed to ensure Ukraine's security until the country becomes a full member of NATO.
Background. It also became known that Ukraine and France signed an agreement on security cooperation.
