EU imposes sanctions on companies from China, Turkey and India for helping Russia

As part of the 13th package of sanctions against Russia, the EU Council has imposed import and export control restrictions on companies from China, India, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Turkey and Sri Lanka.

"The Council has added 27 legal entities to the list of those who directly support Russia's military-industrial complex in its aggressive war against Ukraine. They will be subject to stricter export restrictions on dual-use goods and technologies," the EU Council said in a press release.

Four Chinese companies and one legal entity each from other countries – India, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Kazakhstan and Turkey – were sanctioned. The EU Council notes that these entities are supporting Russia's military industry and armed forces bypassing restrictions.

In particular, the list of sanctions has been expanded to include RG Solutions Limited, a Hong Kong-based company, and three mainland Chinese companies – Guangzhou Ausay Technology Co Limited, Shenzhen Biguang Trading Co. Ltd and Yilufa Electronics Ltd.

In addition, TOO Elem Group from Kazakhstan, Thai IT Hardware Co., Ltd from Thailand and Yildiz Cip Teknoloji Elektronik Bilgisayar Malzemeleri Ticaret Sanayi Limited Sirketi from Turkey were also subject to the restrictions.

Conex Doo Beograd-Stari Grad from Serbia, Euro Asia Cargo (Private) Ltd. from Sri Lanka and Si2 Microsystems Pvt Ltd from India were also included in the list.

"According to the decision, the list of prohibited goods that can contribute to the technological development of the Russian defence and security sector is expanded, adding components for the development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles," the press release said.

The EU has imposed additional restrictions on the export of goods that contribute to the "development of Russian industrial potential", such as electrical transformers.

At the same time, as noted, Brussels is facing difficulties in developing new restrictions, as "all major facilities are already under sanctions," Politico wrote earlier. However, following the 13th package of restrictions, the European Commission will quickly propose the 14th, which will include new bans on imports from Russia.

Background. As reported, Biden announced more than 500 new sanctions against Russians, including those associated with Navalny's imprisonment. The measures are also aimed at the Russian financial sector, the defence industry, and individuals evading sanctions.
