CNN: Pentagon looking for ways to support Ukraine without guarantees of $60bn aid package passed by Congress

The Pentagon is weighing whether to use the last financial reserve it has left to support Ukraine – even without guarantees of replenishment by Congress.

Source. This was reported by CNN with reference to several representatives of the US Department of Defence.

The Pentagon has about $4 billion of presidential funds remaining, which allow it to use its own strategic stockpiles to send military equipment to Ukraine.

But the withdrawal of these stockpiles could affect the US defence capability, and the Pentagon is reluctant to spend them without being sure that they will be reimbursed by Congress as part of a $60bn supplemental funding package.

But as the situation in Ukraine becomes increasingly difficult due to delays in military supplies, the Pentagon is trying to see if there is any internal financial cushion that would allow the department to spend at least part of the $4bn to help Ukraine, CNN reports.

No decisions have been made yet, but discussions of this and other options have become increasingly relevant in the past few weeks as the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine has become increasingly difficult, Defence Ministry officials told CNN.

Background. Meanwhile, it has become known that House Speaker Johnson's election campaign was sponsored by the owner of the Tula Ammunition Plant. This explains why he is slowing down the adoption of the bill to help Ukraine, users say.
