NABU suspects 7 people of creating a scheme to purchase cables for Ukrzaliznytsia
Corruption conspiracy resulted in stealing UAH 117 million

The NABU has served a notice of suspicion to 7 people, including two employees of Ukrzaliznytsia, who allegedly organised a scheme to embezzle funds for the purchase of cables. The amount of damage caused to the state by the criminal organisation is estimated at UAH 117 million.
During 2021-2023, the businessman implemented a plan to supply UZ with cable and wire products at inflated prices. To do this, he entered into a conspiracy with members of an organised group, which was a kind of "back office" of the company, informally controlled its activities and, for a certain percentage of the purchase amount, could ensure that the "right" companies won UZ tenders.
As a result, Ukrzaliznytsia entered into contracts with three companies controlled by the entrepreneur, which supplied products at prices above market prices.
At the same time, the companies did not produce the goods themselves, but purchased them through a number of intermediary companies from manufacturers, including controlled ones. This is what allowed them to artificially increase the cost of their products. It is noted that as a result of the scheme, Ukrzaliznytsia suffered losses of UAH 117 million.
Background. It was also reported that the NABU became interested in the agreement between Ukrgasvydobuvannya and Expert Petroleum.
