Western countries deliberately did not give Ukraine many weapons to persuade Putin to de-escalate - Lithuanian Foreign Minister
Lithuanian minister also supported Macron's idea to send foreign troops to Ukraine

Western countries limited the amount of weapons provided to Ukraine to combat Russian aggression in order to persuade Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to de-escalate the conflict.
Source. This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
At the same time, he admitted that such tactics of Ukraine's partners did not work.
"We tried to force Putin to de-escalate the situation by limiting our assistance to Ukraine. It clearly did not work," he said on Twitter.
We tried to get Putin to de-escalate by putting limits on how much we help Ukraine. This obviously hasn't worked. Putin is much more likely to be deterred by @EmmanuelMacron's strategic ambiguity and clearly defined goal of defeating Russia.

It should be noted that the Lithuanian minister supported French President Emmanuel Macron's idea of sending foreign troops to Ukraine and believes that such initiatives can help defeat Russia.
His Latvian counterpart, Krišjanis Karinš, praised the French president for the "evolution" of his views on the war.
"At first, Macron said that we need to talk to Putin and give him the opportunity to leave, not humiliate him. Then he moved on to the second stage, where in fact Ukraine has to win," he said.
The Latvian minister added that Macron now realises that Russia really "must lose the war of aggression, otherwise France and the rest of Europe will be in danger for a long time," Karinš added.
According to the leader of Latvian diplomacy, Macron today "thinks and speaks like a Baltic politician".
After a conference on supporting Ukraine held in Paris on 26 February, Macron said that Ukraine's Western allies would form a coalition to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with long-range weapons, and that sending Western troops to Ukraine in the future should not be ruled out.
Background. As reported earlier, Le Monde wrote that the French authorities have been discussing sending troops to Ukraine since the summer of 2023. According to Macron, Putin understands only the language of force.
