Trump ally files motion to remove Johnson as House Speaker

On Friday, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Green filed a motion to remove Mike Johnson from the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Source. CNN writes about this, citing sources familiar with the matter, amid the right-wing Republicans' outrage over the government funding bill.

The House is to consider Taylor-Green's proposal within two legislative days of its recognition. However, the House is going on a two-week recess, so this issue will be considered after 9 April.

The congresswoman is opposed to the government funding bill being considered in the House of Representatives. In her opinion, Speaker Johnson should not bring it to the floor for a vote because it is a "Democrat-controlled Chuck Schumer bill" that comes from the majority in the House of Representatives, which "should be Republican".

According to her, the bill destroys the majority in the House of Representatives and does not take into account the border issue, allowing "people in every one of the 160 countries in the world" to "invade" the United States.

Johnson himself declined to comment on the motion filed against him, CNN noted.

The publication also writes that a number of fellow Republican lawmakers tried to persuade Green not to file the motion. They argued that in this case, after Johnson's resignation, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries could become Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Shortly before that, Speaker Mike Johnson said that the bill on additional funding for Ukraine would be considered as soon as the issue of funding the federal government was resolved.

The other day, Johnson actually agreed to unblock the decision to help Ukraine, but with significant changes – that it should be a bill from the House of Representatives and that it should be in the form of a loan or a land loan.

"As for his dismissal. We need 216 votes, all Democrats + 3 Republicans. They are there.

Therefore, the fate of Johnson is purely in the hands of Democrats," wrote Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, adding that Johnson's dismissal is unfavourable to Democrats, so they will most likely fail this motion.

Background. As reported, the White House does not support the idea of Republicans to provide aid to Ukraine on credit.
