WSJ: Baykar founder could become Turkey's next president after Erdogan
Polls show he is one of the country's most popular public figures

Selçuk Bayraktar could be one of the possible successors to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as Turkey's president.
Source. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
"In Turkey, Bayraktar drones have made the 42-year-old aerospace engineer [Selcuk Bayraktar] something of a folk hero, bringing the country to the world stage – and possibly its next leader," the newspaper said, noting that "his supporters are suggesting he should succeed the president.
"Polls show him to be one of the country's most popular public figures," the WSJ writes.
Bayraktar is a manufacturer of drones that Ukraine used for defence at the beginning of the Russian invasion, and recently Romania and Poland have bought them.
Since the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Baykar's arms sales have increased by 94%, and it has entered the list of the world's 100 largest arms manufacturers for the first time.
Selçuk Bayraktar does not rule out that Erdogan may ask him to run for office in 2028.
"I would probably say yes, but it would depend on the circumstances," he said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
According to the Turkish constitution, the president can serve no more than two consecutive terms.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the manufacturer of Bayraktar told Reuters that it was building a plant near Kyiv.
