Bloomberg: US has no 'plan B' to help Ukraine, except for bill blocked in Congress
Washington is convinced that EU states could supply Kyiv with Patriot air defence systems from their own stockpiles

The United States has no "plan B" for military aid to Ukraine, except for the $60 billion blocked by Congress, Bloomberg reported on Thursday (11 April), citing unnamed US officials.
The White House is disappointed with both the Republicans, who have been delaying aid to Kyiv since the autumn of 2023, and with European partners, who, according to the Joe Biden administration, could transfer profits from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, the agency's interlocutors say.
In addition, Washington is convinced that the EU states could supply Kyiv with the Patriot air defence systems requested by the Ukrainian authorities from their own stocks.
During his visit to Kyiv in March 2024, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan promised that the bill on military aid to Ukraine would receive bipartisan support and refused to discuss a "plan B" in this regard. Sullivan did not say when exactly the Republicans and Democrats would reach an agreement.
New funding for military assistance to Ukraine has not been agreed upon in the US Congress since the autumn of 2023. On 13 February, the Democrat-controlled Senate approved a bill to provide $95.3 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Kyiv is to receive $60.06 billion of this amount.
However, this document may not pass the House of Representatives, where the Republican Party has a majority. Speaker Mike Johnson has already said that the bill in its current form is deliberately unpassable, as it does not include funding for measures to strengthen the protection of the US southern border, as Republicans insist.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also called on the US Congress to approve a $60 billion military aid package for Kyiv as soon as possible. The longer the US drags its feet on providing such aid, the more Ukrainians will die at the front, Stoltenberg warned.
