Half a million of ammunition for Ukraine: 20 countries have already joined the Czech initiative
According to the Czech Prime Minister, joint supplies to Kyiv "will help to directly change the situation at the frontline"

Twenty countries have joined the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine. This was stated by Czech Prime Minister Peter Fiala on Tuesday, 16 April, during his two-day visit to the United States.
Source. This was reported by Deutsche Welle.
"I am pleased that about 20 countries have already joined our initiative," Fiala said, naming Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland in particular.
The Czech prime minister added that this will allow "to supply about 500,000 pieces of artillery ammunition" to Ukraine.
Fiala also noted that the supply of shells should become a long-term strategy to help Kyiv. According to him, there is no reason why 20 donor countries should not supply Ukraine with another million rounds of ammunition over the next 12 months. Joint supplies to Kyiv "will help to directly change the situation at the frontline," the Czech prime minister added.
Fiala did not specify how much money has already been raised, but according to the Czech government's commissioner for Ukraine's reconstruction, Thomas Kopečna, it is about $3 billion.
In mid-February, during the Munich Security Conference, Czech President Peter Pavel announced the country's intention to supply Ukraine with 500,000 155 mm artillery shells and 300,000 122 mm shells. Pavel suggested purchasing the ammunition from third countries. According to him, such a deal would be possible only with the financial participation of other allied states.
In March, The Wall Street Journal wrote that the Czech Republic had already managed to purchase about 800,000 artillery shells from suppliers around the world. The Czech Republic can purchase another 700,000 shells if it has additional funds.
Background. As a reminder, the Czech Republic called on the West to respond to Russian attacks on Ukraine in the same way as to Iranian shelling of Israel.
