This is the first known case of a Ukrainian air defence system shooting down a strategic bomber

Reports that a Russian bomber was shot down by the Ukrainian military using an S-200 missile are apparently true, according to the British Ministry of Defence's daily report.
The intelligence service notes that this is the first known case of a Ukrainian air defence system shooting down a strategic bomber.
"It is likely that Russia has lost at least 100 combat aircraft to date," the agency said.
The day before, a Tu-22M3 long-range bomber-carrier crashed in the Stavropol Territory of Russia.
There were four pilots on board and they ejected. Three of them were evacuated by a search team, and one crew member was killed, the governor of the Stavropol Territory said.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claims that the incident occurred while returning to the airfield "after completing a combat mission", and that the cause of the accident was a technical malfunction.
On Friday, the Ukrainian side said that the plane was shot down as a result of joint work by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and the Ukrainian Air Force.
Background. To recap, Budanov revealed the details of how the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down the Russian Tu-22 – according to him, the ambush lasted about a week.
