Israeli military intelligence chief resigns
He had previously claimed responsibility for the failures that led to the Hamas attack

Israel's head of military intelligence, Major General Aharon Haliva, has resigned. He will leave his post as soon as a successor is appointed, the military said in a statement.
Source. This was reported by Reuters.
Earlier, Haliva took responsibility for the intelligence failures that allowed the Hamas terrorist organisation to attack Israel on 7 October.
The Intelligence Directorate under Khaliva's leadership has been actively engaged in threats emanating from Iran, in particular to track the progress of Iran's nuclear programme and to counter terrorist activities by Iran's allies, including the Lebanese Hezbollah organisation, which receives Iranian support.
The Directorate also dealt with the threats of Palestinian terror in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. At the same time, Khaliva expressed the opinion that Operation Protective Edge in May 2021 and Israel's efforts to stabilise the Palestinian economy have created the conditions for maintaining long-term peace on the border with the Gaza Strip.
Background. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Israel may increase diplomatic and military pressure on Hamas in the coming days due to its refusal to release hostages.
