Javelinas and stingers: US prepares $1bn aid package for Ukraine
This will be the first package under the adopted bill on assistance to Ukraine

The United States is preparing a $1bn military aid package for Ukraine.
This will be the first package to be received under the yet-to-be-signed Ukraine and Israel aid bill.
Source. Reuters writes about this with reference to its own sources.
The aid package includes
- vehicles
- Stinger anti-aircraft ammunition
- additional ammunition for highly mobile artillery missile systems
- 155 mm artillery ammunition
- TOW and Javelin anti-tank ammunition
as well as other weapons that can be immediately used on the battlefield, the sources said on condition of anonymity.
As reported, the bill approved on 22 April by the lower house of the US Congress (House of Representatives) provides for the allocation of almost $61 billion for purposes related to support for Ukraine.
Of this amount, $23.2bn is earmarked to replenish the US arms stockpile.
In addition to assistance to Ukraine, the package also includes $26 billion in aid to Israel, $8 billion to support US allies in the Indo-Pacific, as well as provisions for new sanctions against Russia, China and Iran and the US President's authority to use frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.
April 23 President Zelenskyy has a phone conversation with US President Joe Biden, during which Biden assures him that if the Senate approves the bill, he will immediately sign it into law.
The two heads of state discussed joint defence production and US participation in the aviation coalition, as well as the signing of a security agreement with the US, preparations for the inaugural peace summit and the NATO anniversary summit in Washington in July 2024.
At the same time, the White House website confirmed Biden's words that his administration would quickly provide significant new security assistance packages for Ukraine in combat and air defence as soon as the Senate passes the supplemental national security package and the president signs it into law.
Background. As reported, most of the weapons from the US aid package to Ukraine are already in Germany and Poland, which will speed up the delivery of the aid once the relevant law is approved in the US.
