Marijuana may be removed from the list of dangerous drugs in the US
This does not mean full legalisation, but opens the way to it, which is called a "historic step"

The US Drug Enforcement Agency may reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug and recognise its medical use.
Source. This was reported by the Associated Press with reference to anonymous sources.
The Drug Enforcement Agency has submitted its proposal to the White House Office of Management and Budget. If approved, marijuana will be moved from Schedule I, which includes heroin and LSD, to Schedule III, which includes some medications.
This does not mean full legalisation, but it opens the way to it, which AP's interlocutors called a "historic step".
Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden proposed to revise the laws prohibiting marijuana and pardon thousands of Americans convicted at the federal level for its possession.
"Too many lives have been turned upside down because of our failed approach to marijuana. It's time to right those wrongs," Biden said.
At the same time, some states have a more lenient approach to regulating marijuana than the federal level. 38 states have already legalised medical marijuana, and 24 have allowed its recreational use.
According to a Gallup poll conducted last autumn, 70% of American adults support the legalisation of marijuana, the highest result ever recorded by Gallup.
Background. As reported, Germany has legalised cannabis, but for now, it will be possible to buy it only in closed clubs. At the next stage, the country will introduce pilot programmes to set up shops for the open sale of marijuana.
