Xi Jinping: China is against slinging mud at a "third country" over the "Ukrainian crisis"
He said he favours a peace conference with both Ukraine and Russia present

Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who is on an official visit to France, said at a press conference in Paris on Tuesday that China is in favour of "holding an international peace conference in due course, recognised by both Russia and Ukraine, which ensures equal participation of all parties and fair discussion of all peace plans".
Ukraine was not the main topic of his visit, but Xi Jinping stressed that Beijing supports a "balanced, effective and sustainable" security architecture in Europe and is not an initiator or party to the "Ukrainian crisis".
"History has proven time and again that conflicts can ultimately be resolved only through negotiations," he said.
"China has repeatedly stated its position. China did not start the Ukrainian crisis, and is not a party or participant in it. Instead of being an observer, we play an important role for peace. The Chinese government's special representative for Eurasia is already on his third trip as part of shuttle diplomacy," Xi Jinping said.
"At the same time, China opposes attempts to use the 'Ukrainian crisis' to scapegoat a third country or to mudsling a third country or to reignite a new Cold War. History has repeatedly proved that in the end, conflicts can only be resolved through negotiations," the Chinese leader said.
"We call on all parties to resume cooperation and dialogue to strengthen mutual trust. We support the holding of an international peace conference in due course, recognised by both Russia and Ukraine, which ensures equal participation of all parties and fair discussion of all peace plans," he added.
Background. As reported, Emmanuel Macron and Ursula von der Leyen called on Xi Jinping to put pressure on Putin to end the war.
The day before, the Chinese leader, according to Macron, "pledged" to refrain from selling any weapons or assistance to Moscow. He also talked about "strict control" of China's exports of dual-use goods that could be used for military purposes.
Xi Jinping's current visit to Europe is the first in 5 years. After France, the Chinese president intends to visit Serbia and Hungary, which are considered friendly countries to both China and Russia. It is also noted that at the end of this trip, Xi Jinping will meet with Russian dictator Putin, who is due to visit China soon.
