TikTok starts testing 60-minute video uploads

TikTok has allowed a limited group of users in some markets to upload videos lasting up to 60 minutes, TechCrunch reports.

However, the company said it has no plans to make the feature widely available in the near future.

At launch, TikTok allowed only 15-second videos to be uploaded, but this limit has since been increased: in October 2023, the service reported that it was testing uploading videos lasting 15 minutes instead of the current 10.

In January 2024, some users noticed that they could upload half-hour videos, but the company did not comment on the information.

TechCrunch notes that with a one-hour limit, TikTok will be able to compete with YouTube even more.

The service is likely to lure authors from this platform, the publication believes.

In 2022, amid competition with YouTube, the social network began testing a horizontal full-screen mode.

In addition, streaming services will be able to post full episodes of their shows on the social network. For example, in 2023, Peacock posted the first episode of the Killing It series on TikTok, dividing it into five parts. Now, streamers do not have to interrupt episodes.

Background. As a reminder, American billionaire Frank McCourt is preparing to submit an application for the acquisition of TikTok. However, the Chinese company ByteDance, which is challenging the US law in court, said it did not intend to sell the asset.

Earlier, Mind wrote that the US House of Representatives approved a bill that would block TikTok unless the Chinese owner of ByteDance agrees to sell it to a local company.
