An explosion occurs in Poland at a plant producing ammunition for Ukraine
A special commission has been set up at the plant to investigate the circumstances of the incident

The explosion occurred at the Mesko arms factory in Skarzysko-Kamiany in Poland, the Wyborcza newspaper reported, cited by the BBC.
The Mesko plant produces weapons and ammunition, including for Ukraine.
In November 2022, the company signed an agreement with the US Department of Defence to supply Piorun portable air defence systems, which were to be transferred by the Pentagon to Ukraine.
According to the head of the company, Elżbieta Sreniavska, the explosion occurred in the rocket fuel centre, killing an employee and injuring another.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known. According to the newspaper, there have already been two explosions at this plant in 2021, both times due to non-compliance with safety regulations.
A special commission has been set up at the plant to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that no external forces were involved in the explosion at the Mesko weapons plant. According to him, the authorities have no such information as of now.
Background. As reported, Western countries are preparing a ‘powerful’ response to Russian sabotage in Europe. In particular, NATO allies are trying to figure out how to respond without resorting to Article 5 on mutual defence of alliance members.
