Sweden accuses Russia of disrupting satellite operations
The disruption also affected television broadcasting in Ukraine, which depends on a target satellite owned by a Swedish company

The Swedish authorities have accused Russia of "harmful interference" with the Scandinavian country's satellites. The satellites began to malfunction this year, immediately after Stockholm joined NATO.
Source. Bloomberg reports.
Sweden claims that the Kremlin's interference has affected three different Sirius satellite networks located at an orbital position of 5 degrees east. This satellite position is one of the main ones serving the Scandinavian countries and Eastern Europe.
"These disruptions are, of course, serious and can be seen as part of Russia's broader hybrid actions against Sweden and other countries," Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson told Bloomberg. He added that Sweden and other countries are now working to "find a response" to Moscow's actions.
According to the prime minister, the disruptions also affected television broadcasting in Ukraine, which depends on a target satellite owned by a Swedish company, which he did not name.
The Swedish Post and Telecommunications Authority has appealed to the council of the International Telecommunication Union to consider the situation, the agency reported.
France, the Netherlands and Luxembourg have filed similar complaints with the ITU. The countries plan to discuss the interference problem at a meeting of the Radio Regulations Council in late June.
In April, Estonia and Finland accused Russia of jamming the GPS system. Between August 2023 and the end of March 2024, 46,000 navigation failures were recorded in the Baltic region.
On 19 June, Polish Deputy Minister of Digitalisation Pawel Olszewski reported attempts to disrupt television. According to him, it happened on 16 June during the broadcast of the first round of the group stage match between Poland and the Netherlands. He blamed Russia for the incident.
Background. Earlier, WP wrote that the Armed Forces of Ukraine stopped using certain types of weapons because of Russian obstacles. In particular, last year the Ukrainian military abandoned the Excalibur shells developed in the United States.
