Russia returns bodies of Ukrainian prisoners of war without internal organs and with signs of torture

The bodies of prisoners of war are being returned to Ukraine without internal organs and may serve as evidence that they are being used for transplantation in Russia. This was discussed at a meeting in Ankara between representatives of the families of prisoners of war and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar, Ukrinform reports.

‘Today it is already known for sure that we receive the bodies of tortured prisoners of war (in the exchange of bodies). We receive not only tortured bodies, but bodies that, unfortunately, are without organs. This confirms the fact that the black market for organ transplants in the Russian Federation is working. And, unfortunately, it works with our prisoners of war. Therefore, I believe that this should be told to the whole world in order to stop this crime,’ said the wife of one of the prisoners of war, a defender of Mariupol.

‘I would also like to ask Turkey, as a patron country in resolving all humanitarian issues regarding the exchange of prisoners of war, to speak out,’ the prisoner's wife added.

She stressed that Russia refuses to return and include prisoners of war from Mariupol in the exchange lists.

‘This is a real pain that makes us work faster and encourages our international partners to take certain actions. One of the main requirements is to set up an international medical commission to investigate the conditions of our prisoners of war and help them fight for their health. And this is one of the messages that was conveyed to the Turkish side,’ said Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar.

While in Ankara, representatives of the families of Mariupol's prisoners of war met with Chief Advisor to the President of Turkey Yalcin Topçu and Chief Ombudsman of Turkey Şeref Malkoç.

Background. For his part, Turkish Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç said during a meeting with the families of the prisoners in Ankara that Russia ignores his requests to visit Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.
