Israel strikes Lebanon's capital after Hezbollah attack on Golan Heights playground
Israeli military says it killed one of Hezbollah's commanders

Israel has launched a strike in Lebanon, Israeli media report, citing the IDF.
According to them, one of the senior members of Hezbollah, Haji Mohsan, was killed as a result of an Israeli air force strike on the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Israel claims that its forces carried out a ‘targeted strike’ in a southern suburb of Beirut on Tuesday in response to a rocket attack that killed 12 children and teenagers at a football ground in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights on Saturday, Reuters reports.
In a statement, the Israeli military said it had killed a commander of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group, whom it blames for Sunday's rocket attack.
Haji Mohsan's fate is currently unknown.
A large explosion was heard in the southern part of the city, witnesses said, with a large cloud of smoke rising over the area.
The strike came amid calls from the international community for restraint, fearing that escalation on the Israeli-Lebanese border could spark a full-scale war between the two sides.
As diplomats try to contain the fallout, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said he did not believe war between Hezbollah and Israel was imminent, although he said he was concerned about the possibility of escalation.
‘Hezbollah and Israel, which last fought each other in a major war in 2006, have been at loggerheads since the start of the Gaza war in October after Hezbollah began firing on Israeli targets in solidarity with the Palestinians.
The fighting has been largely confined to the border regions, and both sides have previously stated that they are not seeking a wider confrontation.
In the latest exchange of fire on Tuesday, the Israeli military said 10 rockets were fired from Lebanon and one hit Kibbutz Hagoshrim, killing a 30-year-old civilian. The Israeli ambulance service reported that he died of shrapnel wounds.
Israel then struck 10 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon overnight and killed one Hezbollah fighter. The Lebanese group confirmed that one of its fighters was killed.
Background. As a reminder, the village of Majdal Shams, located in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, was hit by a rocket attack from Lebanon on 27 July. The missile hit a football field next to a playground. As a result, 12 people were killed, most of them children.
