Intelligence: More and more Russian soldiers are paying bribes to leave the army

According to a post by Ukrainian intelligence in Telegram, Russian servicemen pay exorbitant bribes en masse to avoid military service and not go to Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR) reported on Thursday, August 1, that the attempts of the Russian military to evade service is evidenced by a sharp increase in registered criminal cases related to bribery in the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

The GUR said that in 5 months of 2024, the number of criminal cases for illegal dismissal from service allegedly due to health conditions and granting of illegal vacations tripled in the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

"Almost half of such cases concern occupiers from the 8th Combined Arms Army of the Russian Federation. Another 36% is the 58th Combined Arms Army, the commander of which was detained in the spring on suspicion of corruption," reports the press service of the GUR.

According to the GUR, more than a hundred bribery cases have been initiated against Russian officials of the military units of the Southern Military District for granting leave from the combat zone.

GUR believes that the documentation of these incidents in the form of criminal cases may indicate a growing level of demoralization of the occupation forces, and for the Kremlin, an alarming trend of soldiers escaping from the Russian army by any means possible.

Background. We will remind, in Ukraine, convicted collaborators will be given the opportunity to agree to exchange for captured Ukrainians. The "I want to my own" project will publish information about convicted collaborators who collaborated with the Russian occupiers.
