Zelensky expressed condolences on behalf of the Ukrainian people over the death of Queen Elizabeth II
She was “the rock on which modern UK was built,” stated Liz Truss

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences on behalf of the Ukrainian people over the death of Elizabeth II, the Queen of the United Kingdom.
“We learned about the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with deep sadness. On behalf of the Ukrainian people, we extend sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the entire United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth over this irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,” he wrote on the social network.
British Prime Minister Liz Truss gave a speech near her residence on Downing Street.
She said that “we are all devastated with the death of the Queen, which became a great shock for our nation and the world.”
She described the Queen as “the rock on which modern Britain was built”, adding: “Britain is the great country it is today because of her.”
Truss stressed that the Queen was a personal inspiration for her, as well as for many British.
The ministers of Scotland and Wales have offered deep condolences to the royal family. The first minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon wrote on Twitter:
“The death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is a profoundly sad moment for the UK, the Commonwealth and the world. Her life was one of extraordinary dedication and service. On behalf of the people of Scotland, I convey my deepest condolences to The King and the Royal Family.”
Mark Drakeford, the first Minister of Wales, said he was “incredibly sad” to hear about the Queen's death.
“As our longest reigning monarch, Her Majesty was upholding the values and traditions of the British Monarchy. On behalf of the Welsh people, I express our deep condolences to Her Majesty's family at this time of grief,” Mark Drakeford wrote.
“This is our country’s saddest day,” former Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote. “In the hearts of every one of us there is an ache at the passing of our Queen, a deep and personal sense of loss – far more intense, perhaps, than we expected.
In these first grim moments since the news, I know that millions and millions of people have been pausing whatever they have been doing, to think about Queen Elizabeth, about the bright and shining light that has finally gone out.
She seemed so timeless and so wonderful that I am afraid we had come to believe, like children, that she would just go on and on.
Wave of grief is rolling across the world, from Balmoral – where our thoughts are with all the Royal family – and breaking far beyond this country and throughout that great Commonwealth of nations that she so cherished and which cherished her in return.”
Background. As it became known on the evening of September 8, Queen Elizabeth II, who had been the longest reigning monarch in the history of the UK, died at the age of 96.
