Power deficit increases due to cold weather – Ukrenergo

What happened? Electricity consumption is increasing due to the cold snap, and the power deficit is growing significantly.

Source. NPC Ukrenergo.

Details. Due to the russian missile and drone attacks, power plants (generating capacities) and the high-voltage grid were damaged. The latest russian attack on January 14 caused significant damage to several power units at thermal power plants. Electricity production at operating power plants cannot fully cover consumption needs.

It is noted that all oblast power distribution companies have been informed of consumption limits that are valid throughout the day.

The company recalled that each oblast power distribution company draws up schedules of planned hourly outages in its oblast, which should ensure the consumption of the oblast at the level of the corresponding limit. Exceeding the limits leads to the risk of emergency situations in the power system. Therefore, emergency power cuts are used to prevent them.

Over the past day, artillery shelling damaged the energy infrastructure in the frontline areas in the south and east. Repairs are underway where the military has permitted them to be conducted.

"Ukrenergo, electricity producers and oblast power distribution companies are constantly working to restore damaged facilities hit by enemy attacks. However, after each subsequent russian attack on the energy infrastructure, the restoration becomes more difficult and takes longer," the NPC notes.

Previously. The electricity shortage was growing due to a gradual drop in temperature across Ukraine.
