US Secretary of Defence: New russian troops coming to Ukraine are "poorly trained and equipped"

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Russia "continues to bring large numbers of additional people to the fight" in Ukraine, and "that is their strength."

However, the United States expects Russia to continue this strategy of "throwing bodies into battle" despite the lack of equipment.
Austin said this at a press conference at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday.
According to the minister, on the contrary, the United States and NATO intend to provide Ukraine with sophisticated equipment – and train the Ukrainian military on these systems to give them an advantage.
"Our goal is to make sure that we give Ukraine additional capabilities so that they can not only achieve a small success on the battlefield, but also turn the tide in their favor and go on the offensive," Austin said.
"We want to make sure that we provide capabilities, not just platforms," he added.
He emphasized that for each type of equipment provided by Western partners, the Ukrainian military has a full training path against it.
"We are also going to give them additional training in maneuvering and maintenance. And with these additional capabilities, better trained troops can work much better in the current conditions. I think they're going to have a very good chance to make a significant difference on the battlefield and establish the initiative and be able to sustain that initiative in the future," Austin said.
