Ukraine and the United States are preparing a joint cooperation programme on decarbonisation and sustainability of the Ukrainian energy sector
The programme will be aimed at development of electricity transmission systems and the construction of small modular reactors in Ukraine

The energy ministries of Ukraine and the United States, together with the Net Zero World initiative, are preparing a cooperation programme for the development of the Ukrainian energy sector.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy.
In addition, the programme will include cooperation in the development of electricity transmission systems and the construction of small modular reactors in Ukraine.
According to Deputy Energy Minister Yaroslav Demchenkov, Ukraine is striving for wider use of carbon-neutral energy sources in order to gradually abandon coal in electricity production in the future, as well as to reduce natural gas consumption, relying only on its own production and production of biogas.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Ukraine has a huge potential to become an energy hub in Europe.
"With our power system integrated into ENTSO-E and expanded energy corridors, with the green and low-carbon generation available in Ukraine, extensive gas and electricity networks as well as storage facilities, we are confident that this prospect is real," Mr. Demchenkov said.
Background. Energoatom and the British company Rolls-Royce SMR signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document will provide opportunities for future cooperation on the restoration of Ukraine through the deployment of small modular reactors.
A deployed power plant with a factory-built small modular reactor will be able to generate enough carbon-free electricity to power a million homes for more than 60 years.
