Teixeira has had access to classified Pentagon documents since 2021
He was promoted a year ago

On Friday, April 14, Jack Teixeira appeared in court in Boston on charges of disclosing classified Pentagon information.
In February last year, he was promoted to the rank of airman first class.
According to the testimony of FBI Special Agent Patrick Luckenhoff, Teixeira was required by his line of work to sign a lifetime non-disclosure agreement and confirm that he was aware of criminal liability for unauthorized dissemination of classified information.
According to a representative of the Ministry of Defense, Teixeira's work gave him access to a network containing classified data.
He worked with an "operational mission that operates around the clock and seven days a week" that collects intelligence from various sources and prepares it for the military command.
For this purpose, Teixeira had a top secret/confidential classified information (TS/SCI) clearance.
"The job of this pilot was to work in this network that transmitted highly classified information," the official said.
"It's not like a regular IT professional where you call the help desk and they come to fix your computer," the official added. – "They're working on a very secret system, so they need a security clearance.
According to the official, Teixeira underwent "a very thorough background check" to obtain this clearance. People with TS/SCI clearances are required to sign non-disclosure agreements, and they are "required to report themselves" if they accidentally mishandle information or have any problems that "may affect your mental state or ability to continue to do your job."
A government agency that monitors the circulation of classified documents found that in February 2023, Teixeira had accessed at least one such document the day before it was made publicly available on the Internet.
Investigation documents also show that the suspect sent queries from his work computer in early April searching for classified intelligence reports and the word "leak" after the first reports of classified documents leaking appeared.
Authorities also claim that the suspect Teixeira searched for information in classified reports about who the intelligence community suspects of leaking classified data.
The Massachusetts prosecutor confirmed that Jack Teixeira has been detained until his first court hearing, which is scheduled for next Wednesday.
Background. As a reminder, Jack Teixeira, a suspect in the Pentagon document leak, has been formally charged.
