Lithuania will launch the first-ever training disconnection of its power system from the Russian one
The country wants to switch exclusively to its own energy sources and imports from Sweden and Poland

Lithuania has decided to disconnect its power system from the Russian one for the first time in history. The test disconnection will take place on Saturday, April 22.
Source. This is stated in a statement by the country's grid operator Litgrid.
"For the first time in history, the Lithuanian power system will operate completely independently, so we are taking a responsible approach to preparing the test and will be ready for all scenarios," said Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Lutgrid.
He is convinced that Lithuanian consumers will not notice the disconnection from the Russian power grid.
Lithuania will be isolated from the Russian grid for 10 hours: from 11 am to 9 pm local time. During this period, the republic will completely cut off all energy ties with Moscow and rely solely on its own energy sources and imports from Sweden and Poland.
Earlier, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia refused to buy Russian fossil fuels, but historical dependence on electricity supplies is the most difficult problem for the Baltic states.
The European Commission has promised to allocate about 1.1 billion euros of investment to resolve the issue. Before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania planned to stop receiving electricity from Russia only in 2025. But, according to Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis, this could happen as early as next year if the planned tests are successful.
Background. As a reminder, Latvia has banned celebrations on May 9 – the document was recognized as urgent and approved in two readings at once.
