Customs officers prevented the illegal importation of currency worth 3.7 million UAH.
This was reported by the State Customs Service.
According to the customs officers, on the evening of 11 May at the Astei customs post on the border with Hungary, the State Customs Service specialists found undeclared currency – $120,000 – which was being transported across the border by a 64-year-old resident of Kharkiv and his passenger.
As the service asserts, the passenger and driver assured inspectors that they were carrying only personal belongings. However, according to the requirements of customs legislation, it is permitted to move across the border currency values in an amount equivalent to 10,000 euros per person without declaration.
As a result, the driver was fined 20% of the amount exceeding the limit allowed by Ukrainian law for moving currency values without written declaration. At the same time, an additional $100,000 is subject to temporary seizure.
