Britain and the Netherlands agree to create a coalition to buy fighter jets for Ukraine
The coalition will provide support in everything from pilot training to the purchase of F-16 fighter jets

At a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the Council of Europe summit in Iceland, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak agreed to work on the creation of an international coalition to purchase fighter jets for Ukraine.

"Prime Minister [Sunak] and Prime Minister Rutte have agreed that they will work to create an international coalition to provide Ukraine with combat air capability, providing support for everything from pilot training to the purchase of F-16 fighter jets," the statement said.
"The prime minister reiterated his belief that Ukraine's rightful place is in NATO, and leaders agreed on the importance of long-term allied security assistance to Ukraine to ensure that it can deter future attacks," the British prime minister's office added.
As part of the summit, Sunak also met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"The Prime Minister informed Ursula von der Leyen about President Zelenskyy's visit to the UK. The leaders agreed on the need to continue to support Ukraine at this pivotal moment, including through sanctions against Russia. They agreed that this week's G7 summit in Japan will be a moment to demonstrate unity and international support for Ukraine," the Downing Street official said.
The G7 summit will be held on May 19-21 in Hiroshima.
Background. As reported, the UK will start training Ukrainian pilots on fighter jets and provide "hundreds" of drones with a range of 200 km.
