Unblocking Mykolaiv ports will allow Ukraine to double grain exports – Minister of Agrarian Policy

Ukraine will double the export of agricultural products provided the ports in Mykolaiv are unblocked.

This was stated by Mykola Solskyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, during the national telethon United News, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, Mykolaiv is of great importance as it is on par with the ports of Greater Odessa in size. Its unblocking could potentially double the exports for Ukraine, make logistics cheaper, and as a result, Ukrainian farmers would receive more money.

As Solskyi noted, not only the opening of Mykolaiv was important, but also the number of ships that were allowed through the Bosphorus. Since if there are not enough of them, no matter how many ports are open, it will not yield anything.

The minister added that it was also important to talk about those people who were ready to work on these ships, as the risk factor remained significant.

Background. On 17 May, a day before the formal conclusion, the grain deal – a quadrilateral agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from Black Sea ports – was extended for another two months. This was announced by the President and presidential candidate of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"With the efforts of our country, with the support of our russian friends, with the contribution of our Ukrainian friends, it has been decided to extend the Black Sea grain agreement for another two months," Erdoğan said, wishing success to the whole world and assuring that Turkey will continue efforts to ensure compliance with all conditions of the agreement and its continuation in the next period. The Turkish president also announced that two more ports – Mykolaiv and Olvia – could be involved in grain export from Ukraine.

The attainment of the agreement on the extension of the contract was also confirmed by the other parties to the agreement. It will be in effect at least until July 18. Mind examined whether the problem can be considered exhausted and why its further fate lies in the hands of the Turkish electorate.
