ZNPP switches to blackout mode due to shelling – Energoatom
In the event of a failure to restore external power within 10 days, there could be an accident with radiation implications for the entire world

As a result of shelling overnight on 22 May, at 5:26 a.m., the last high voltage transmission line, Dniprovska 750 kV, was disconnected, from which the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was powered for its own needs.
This was announced by Energoatom.
"After losing external power, which is vital for powering the cooling pumps for nuclear material in the power units, all the power plant's diesel generators turned on in automatic mode, the fuel reserve will be enough for ten days. The countdown has begun. In the event of a failure to restore external power to the station within this time, an accident with radiation implications for the entire world could occur," the statement said.
It is noted that "russia's continued occupation of ZNPP, the dominance at the station of illegitimate and unprepared rashist leadership, which bears no responsibility for the nuclear and radiation safety of the facility, is constantly bringing ZNPP closer to a catastrophe."
"russia's nuclear terrorism must be stopped immediately, and the invaders must leave the territory of the station and the satellite city of Energodar", the statement emphasised.
Background. russian military forces have been strengthening defensive positions around the Zaporizhzhia NPP, occupied by them, against the backdrop of an expected Ukrainian counter-offensive in the region.
russian military forces have been setting up fire positions on some ZNPP buildings for several months, as well as installing networks for protection against drones.
